My question is…

Why is anybody still using Flash? I dumped it from our systems 8 months ago and the biggest thing we’re missing is a bunch of obnoxious pop up ads in the browsers and constant security updates.

Understand, when a site wants to install Flash it’s because they want to jam ads down your throat, track you across the web and sell your info. Just say no and move along, honest you won’t miss it… There’s plenty of alternate sites that won’t risk your security for their profit.

Flash has been dead for a long time… Quit clicking install and it’ll quit wiggling… 😉

I still see no standalone installer for Flash Player for Windows 10 this time around. To get the update, Windows 10 users must download and install all the February MS Updates as far as I can see.

Flash Player is the basis of many streaming video sites, including all the major broadcast networks when they release an episode to be streamed for free.

There are other sites which use Flash Player. It isn’t going away any time soon.

If I don’t fire up IE 11 or Edge, can unpatched Flash Player plugins still do damages?

I use Chrome or Firefox for browsing and streaming, and they are patched regularly.

I love Flash. I installed it for IE11 last week, and for my other browsers as well.
AdBlock Plus takes care of most of the ads.
Sometimes I need Flash e.g. Boeing Co. videos.
I don’t usually use IE11, heeding Woody’s advice.

Still Windows 8.1.

AdBlock Plus… Oh yeah… I remember that program…. It was a requirement back in the olden days when people still used Flash…

Yes there are still some companies like Boeing using Flash… Their idea of progress is using email to send FAX… They’re usually the first to get hacked and don’t understand why. Such is the nature of behemoth bureaucracies… 😉

You are correct about the major broadcast sites using Flash. It’s because they want to track viewership. Unfortunately installing Flash to watch those services makes you vulnerable to every other site you visit. Case in point I wanted to watch the New Hampshire debates recently and couldn’t unless I installed Flash… So they had one less viewer. Sorry I couldn’t sell my soul for instant gratification. I watched them the next day on YouTube…

Frankly it’s a pain in the butt. I have a 150mb connection that I get half speed out of because I run it through a VPN. I run Firefox with NoScript which blocks so many features of various sites, then I have to go in and enable what I need to see if it’s really that important to me… But hey I hate the buzzer nagging me to put my seat belt on too… It’s just a necessity if you want to drive and thanks to hackers and unscrupulous companies these precautions are just as necessary (IMO) I’ve been in the industry since DOS 2.2 perhaps I understand more about what’s going on than the average bear. I think the rest of the world is only starting to understand what’s happening… Hopefully, before it’s too late…

My solution to these Flash Player problems is to use it only on sites where content is safe and cannot be viewed without Flash Player enabled. Disable it for all other Web sites and content, and double-down with NoScript and Ghostery. Clear browser caches and Flash Cookies frequently, and scan with several AV programs if using Windows or MacOS.
