May I suggest a creating a single reference site with information on setting up a new Windows 11 machine? You may already have this somewhere I haven’t found, but it appears all the different configuration recommendations are scattered over multiple areas and time frames. I’ve read many of these as they came out, but I’m still using an older Win10 machine not fully compatible with Win11. I’m looking to buy a new machine sometime in the next year and will be wanting to review all these excellent configuration suggestions, but finding them over a multi-year expanse of articles is daunting, not to mention the recommended setting that have changed over time. It would be extremely helpful to have a constantly updated page with the latest information on how to setup a new Windows 11 machine, with explanations and recommendations for most settings. Additionally, explanations and recommendation for various “services” would be helpful for consumers. Which ones may be safely stopped if not needed? Thank you for your consideration and time.

There is nothing wrong with Windows 10 that require a new PC with Windows 11.
Windows 10 will be supported until October 2025 and 3 years added with ESU or 0Patch. -

AskWoody PlusMay 6, 2024 at 12:01 pm #2668260Thank you for your reply. I understand, but my computer is now 8 years old, and many of its components are showing their age. I am a retired computer professional. I plan to buy a computer with Home Pro within the next year, but being out of the main stream of technical updates have lost track of many of the recommendations made over several years and development of Win11. I just thought to have a summary site available for those who are continually transitioning from older versions of Windows to new computers could be an ongoing feature that might be welcome. Thank you.

AskWoody PlusMay 6, 2024 at 3:08 pm #2668401Hi BookBuff:
You might find some helpful suggestions in Susan Bradley’s April 2023 Windows 11 Setup Tips for Consumers at https://www.askwoody.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Windows-11-Setup-Tips-for-Consumers.pdf.
I’m not sure if a newer version of this guideline is currently available for download.

GuestMay 6, 2024 at 5:22 pm #2668438Some might like this windows 11 setup guide. My main tips are use 2 local accounts only, one user and one admin, and disable widgets. And I prefer to disable bitlocker for ease of backup. https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/windows-11-usability-guide.html
