    Hi,

When creating a form, I made a field for some numeric input.
I want to restrict it, so user can only enter data in fields & cannot press Enter anywhere.

How can I enforce this rigid setup?

    Thanks,

    m.q.

I expect that you are talking about an online form. Follow the links at Web Resources: Forms (addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms) for information on these (in addition to that available under help).

As to not allowing the Enter key to insert a paragraph mark but rather act like the tab key, follow the link above to the MS Knowledgebase article on the subject.

No sorry, I am referring to normal Word Forms.
        Not on-line forms.
Pls. advise me on controlling the form field – i.e. the grey cell with little circles in it (non printing chars.)

        Thanks,

        m.q.

          Yes,

This is confusion built into Word by their calling it an online form. An online form is one that is designed to be filled in by typing on the computer (although they can be designed to print as well). They bear little relationship to a web form or a form to be used over the Internet.

You are trying to use an online form. They are created using the Forms toolbar in Word. For any fields inserted with this toolbar to work properly, the form must locked or “protected.”

Look in help under “online form” and follow the links at Web Resources: Forms (addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms) and your questions will be answered.

Download the samples and play with them.

            Thanks for clarifying that Charles.

Actually my problem is that my Form is protected, but still I am able to insert CR’s into the field. Even though it’s length is restricted.

I placed a 512kb Lotus ScreenCam file on the URL :

            http://www.geocities.com/musabqureshi

            which shows my problem visually.

I am trying to prevent this so the user MUST fill the cell on 1 line.

            Thanks,

            m.q.

p.s. the lotus screencam player can also be downloaded from that webpage.

One solution (probably not entirely satisfactory) is to have a macro attached to the “on exit” for each form field, whic removes Carriage returns on the form field just exited- and perhaps to display a message if any were removed.

Follow the links at Web Resources: Forms (addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms) and your questions will be answered.

This includes the link to the knowledge base article that tells you how to make it so that pressing the Enter key will not add a line but instead will just jump to the next field.

Or else go directly to the KB article

              Thanks Charles, a good link.
