I saw this topic in another story earlier this year from Arizona. Since I’m due for a two-year renewal of my CPR training I discussed it with my Heart Association CPR instructor who happens to be a former EMT and is now a physical therapist at the nursing home where I hang out. She said they don’t plan to “officially” teach it in class and that one of the key criteria is that you actually SEE the victim “go down” and immediately start chest compressions. If you are called to a scene or come upon someone lying in the street, the “normal” CPR practice of compressions AND breaths is supposed to be used.
Since I happen to be a Bee Gees fan, I put a copy of Stayin’ Alive on my smartphone and have tested the accuracy of the claim about 100 compressions. Pretty darn close, within a second or two, in MY tests on a CPR dummy!
I hope I don’t ever have to practice what I preach, but I’m ready if called upon.
