I’ve set up an AMD 900 MHz Win2K machine for someone, and every once in a while it decides to stop sending a signal to the monitor. frown When it first happened I thought it was the video card, especially since it worked once I changed the card. However, it has happened again since then, including this weekend while I was away. I came back today, turned the computer off and back on – no signal, then turned it off, let it sit for a couple of hours, turned it on and it worked fine. Any ideas? Mother board? …
    Thanks,

Didn’t I hear something about systems not waking up after going to sleep? … anyone?

Drk could be on the right track.

I have a screen that sits in my store room for emergency back. Some time after the 12 mth warranty expired the power saver feature would turn the power off but not activate the CRT. (You can hear the click of activation, the power LED changes from orange to green but the screen stays black.) BTW it is a reputable brand VDU, and the only one I’ve seen do this.

      Two thoughts:

1- I had a similar problem last year when I added a second hard disk to a system. The problem was that the power supply could not handle the extra load.

2- The system is getting too hot. Check to make sure the fans are working.

It seems like its probably not a sleep problem since turning the computer off and back on did not always make it work, and turning the monitor off and back on made it display a ‘no signal, check cable’ type message, which I assume means the monitor is not sleeping.
I’ll see about heat fire being the cause, but it will be hard to tell if I’ve solved the problem since I can’t reproduce it and it might go for quite a while before it strikes again.
      Thanks,
