I have an old keyboard that has no Windows key. Is there a key combination that emulates the Windows key?

Why not get a new keyboard, you ask? Because this one is an IBM solid-click behemoth that is built like a tank. It was manufactured in 1984 and I have been using it since then, and it still works as good as new. This keyboard is truly a delight to use.

Except it does not have a Windows key.

      Ctrl+ESC = the windows key…

        Ctrl+ESC = the windows key…

But this does not allow key combinations such as Windows-E or Windows-L to bring up explorer or lock the workstation.

I have an old keyboard that has no Windows key. Is there a key combination that emulates the Windows key?

You could perhaps use AutoHotkey – Free Mouse and Keyboard Macro Program with Hotkeys and AutoText[/url] to redefine, say, your right-Ctrl key to be the Windows key.

Except it does not have a Windows key.

Or, this old gem which I used to remap the caps lock key to a tab function.

      MapKeyboard – Freeware keyboard remapper

Edited to add: I know you don’t physically have a Win key, but maybe the software would take that “function” (command) and remap for you.

    • #1204375

Sure enough Ctrl+Esc brings up the menu, but Ctrl+Esc+E and Ctrl+Esc+L only bring up the menu; they don’t do the other functions.

Interestingly, if I press Ctrl+Esc at the same time or if I hold down Ctrl and then press Esc, the menu appears, but if I hold Esc and then press Ctrl, nothing happens.

      Anyway, thanks for your help!
