Repeat after me: No, you don’t want the latest Release Preview of Windows 10. Last night, Microsoft rolled out KB3216755 for PCs and 14393.726 on Win1

Woody, now I am getting confused myself.
I dropped from the Insider program few months ago due to frequent installs and not using that machine often enough and now I am on the mainstream 1607 (CB, CBB) with the Store, Cortana and few other things controlled by Group Policy and Windows Update under control – set to 3 – Auto download and notify for install. This means I would still install early and practically everything available, but when I find it suitable and with the patch already downloaded in the background. No Feature Update delay or metered connections or wushowhide for me as I think those are just hacks useful mostly for the Home Edition for lack of a better approach and not proper implementation of Windows Update controls and as it was seen recently, to some extent unpredictable or at least confusing.
What I don’t understand though is who gets the Release Preview patches and in which conditions. I understand that they are the equivalent of the Optional Preview Monthly Rollups for Windows 7 if I am correct, but while on Windows 7 they are offered to everybody, on Windows 10 they are not. Is this another configuration in the Insider program in addition to the Fast and Slow tracks?

      Thanks, it is clear now.
Not something about which most need to know anything else other than those updates exist. 🙂

I am no longer confused 🙂
Woody sorted it out for me!

This update broke Plex Media Server for me until I uninstalled it (the update, not Plex). Definitely not opting into the Release Preview ring anymore.
