If you use a Norton Security v22.15.x product on your Win XP or Vista computer please be aware that your legacy Norton product will reach end-of-life on 22-May-2024. See NortonLifeLock employee Gayathri_R’s 01-Mar-2024 product announcement at End-of-Life announcement for Norton security software on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 (SP0) for further details.

Note: Norton refers to Win 7 without any service packs as Windows 7 SP0.

Move up to Win 10 and use power shell to give it the Win 7,  START .   If money is the problem there are some nice deals on desk tops.

@lmacri, this spring I’ll be moving my last remaining Vista system that’s still on Norton over to Panda Dome. To reward Panda’s continued support for Vista, I may buy a subscription instead of installing the free version.

eScan Internet Security also still supports Vista.

Both of these products even support XP (SP3) systems.

The original announcement said that Norton support for Vista was ending on May 22. Now living on borrowed time:

Norton products reached EOL (meaning I uninstalled it) on my deceased Vista system a long, long, time ago.  And I never looked back.  IMHO, product quality went downhill quickly when it was picked up by Symantec and now Norton is just a name with brand recognition.

The proof is in the results. I’ve been using Norton for many years. And regardless of their name takeover, they have proven to provide the ultimate in protection for all our PCs and Macs. Just a matter of preference and the results speak for themselves.😊

The last Norton virus definitions for my Vista system were installed June 12. Virus scans are refusing to run. Curiously, though, other aspects of Norton 360 such as the firewall and maintenance tasks like disk optimization are still working.

So full support of Vista by Norton lasted three more weeks than advertised.

Well, this is bizarre: Today I went to replace Norton 360 on the Vista machine with Panda Dome. Much to my surprise, when I looked at the Norton icon in the Taskbar, there was a green check mark rather than a red X on the icon. So I opened N360 and got the following:

      Norton-Vista

      !!!

A visit to the Norton Community forum didn’t indicate any changes to Norton’s announced policy to end support for Vista/XP systems.

(Note: This is not a complaint! 🙂 )

so what happen’s now? my hobby is running old computer games on my PC’s that use XP, Vista & windows 7.

I also have one that ran 8.1 and updated to ’10’. this one (Dell) is even slower than my XP Machine

I’ve tried to renew my norton subscription, but the downloader will not even install (reports Dill Libary componant missing) so will not even open. why are norton ‘stuffing’ us like this ?

        Hi Pete Williams:

The latest Norton 360 v24.x products are compatible with Win 7 SP1 and higher – see the system requirements <here>.

If you have a Win 7 SP1 OS the only caveat is that you must have installed the KB4474419 update (rel. 23-Sep-2019) that adds SHA-2 code signing support for Windows 7, which should be installed if your Win 7 SP1 OS is fully patched to end of support on 14-Jan-2020. See my 18-Feb-2024 post in MsN Bhatti’s How to Fix Live Update Failed Error 8504, 102 in the Norton forum for instructions on how to determine if KB4474419 is installed and what to do if it is missing. If required, the standalone .msu installers for KB4474419 are still available on the Microsoft Update Catalog at https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4474419 Windows 7.

I’m afraid you’ll have to find another antivirus product for your Win XP and Vista computers. AFAIK free and paid versions of Panda Dome are still compatible with Win XP and higher (see the product comparison chart at https://www.pandasecurity.com/en/homeusers/free-antivirus/), but I only used Norton v22.15.x products before I retired my Vista SP2 machine back in 2019 so hopefully other users following this topic will be able to suggest some other options.

          (Back from real life.)

Both Panda and eScan AV products were still officially available for Windows XP, Vista, and 7 the last time I checked.

I can also confirm that Norton 360 was (remarkably) still working well on my Vista system as of three weeks ago, when the machine stopped running due to leaking capacitors on the motherboard. After some unwelcome distractions, I had some time to address the problem and the PC is now awaiting a replacement motherboard, so I can’t provide up-to-the-minute information on Norton’s continued working on Vista.

The computer on which I’m typing this is on Windows 7 and it’s running Bit Defender Total Security, which I am very happy with. If Norton stops working on Win7 or the newest version turns out to be unacceptable (there have been numerous complaints about it), BD will be my fallback option.

Why is Norton following microsoft’s lead in trying to kill-off these older, but still perfectly usable computers?
My computers (XP, Vista, 7 ) run games that more modern computers will not look at,
and I have used Norton Products for the last fifteen years.
not everyone wants (or indeed likes) Microsoft’s latest offerings
It seems to me that the compuer worl nowadays chases profit rather than service.
      Looks like ‘GOODBYE’ to Norton.

        I’m with you there!
I’ll go further to add..with a view to GOODBYE modern-day microsoft should things continue to deteriorate further from what was once reliable.

Windows - commercial by definition and now function...
