not enough space to continue installing Windows 11?

Time after time I could not continue after the message:

We can’t determine if your PC has enough space to continue installing Windows 11. Please restart setup.

I couldn’t find this message anywhere on the internet, nor any useful tips.

 

The message is a Microsoft message which is translated from Dutch, so may be not accurate.

In the attachment i will describe a solution for this problem and i hope it will help people.

Please do remember that, if you are doing an in-place update, it needs space for both the old and new c:/Windows. Yes, it’s a bit of a pig though as 11 has progressed, SxS has gotten much better. Do attend to clearing your temp folders in windows and C:/Users/”user”/AppData/local/temp . Still, M.2 or 2.5 SSD has gotten so much cheaper that folks should definitely consider an upgrade before the update – both for capacity and speed. I am currently showing 43/40GB used (with the known clear-space-error-supposedly-fixed-this-month(~9GB)).

Run the free portable TreeSize app to find how much free space on C: drive and the amount of data taking space on the drive.
