Is there any down side to installing sp6a? I’m still at sp5 but the number of odd things happening (system crashes, files/folders that won’t delete, activeX warnings in html help files – – -) is starting to increase. I’m wondering if installing sp6 might just refresh things and clear some of these up.

    Thanks

I haven’t heard of anyone who actually liked SP5 – I would advise SP6a without a doubt. I heard so many bad things about it, we went from 4 to 6.

WinNT 4.0 SP6a is our company policy (WAN with 11,000 + workstations)

I’ve worked with both, and I never had any real problems with SP5, but SP6a has cured some communications problems on at least a few machines on our network. I’ve never had any trouble with SP6a, although I seem to remember that you can’t actually uninstall it and roll back to 5.

After yesterday’s debacle with NT4 & IIS, I’d hope everyone is going to SP6a – it’s required for the patches to stop the Code Red and IIS/Proxy/WWW Publishing service attacks. I know I’m going to be paying more attention to Microsoft’s security alerts in the future!
