Does anyone know the purpose of the numbered files (file names like [2], [3], and so on, including the brackets) that fill up the Temporary Internet Files folder when you have IE 5.5? They seem to be empty files (file size “0 kb”), but they multiply like rabbits, and eventually you have hundreds of them. They don’t show up in Windows Explorer, even if you “show all files,” but they do if you search for filename *.* in the temp internet files folder. This doesn’t seem to occur with earlier versions of IE.
