    Running Windows XP (SP 3).

I had some problem with NVidia previously … then downloaded a driver in 2008, and it worked.

Today I ran a diagnostic scan in Norton 360, and itwarned me that I didn’t have a driver installed for my NVidia Geforce 5200. Does this mean that my system has been using generic drivers?

I used Windows to download a driver (from the Internet? didn’t insert a disc) … now the screen
flashes off (briefly) every few seconds.

If this persists after I reboot, how can I uninstall the drivers?

Actually it’s worse … can’t reboot…get a blue screen, Windows has shut down, infinte loop caused by
nv4_disp (same sort of problem I had a few years ago).

Can I simply go to Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs, and remove both

      NVidia drivers
      and
      NVidia Windows 2000/XP Display Drivers?
(no details about “last used” etc. are shown)

Will there still be something generic to run the display?

      Thanks.

Go into taskmanager and halt all NVidia’s processes.
Then try removing the drivers from safemode via “add/Remove programs”.

Yes, Windows will still run your display, albeit in a poorer quality res.

Download and store a copy of your GPU’s latest drivers from the manufacturers website.

        Thanks.

When you say “safe mode”, does that mean: reboot into safe mode?

As far as having the latest driver … where can I see the version or date of the driver I’m using now?

You should be able to note the driver version number by opening your NVIDIA’s control panel.

      OR

      GPU-Z

      “J” ,
Hello…The easiest way is to go to the Nvidia Website and down load the correct driver ( just enter you information for your setup ) Nvidia Run the new driver version and it will replace the old without any problems (most times) I have done this many times… Sometimes the older version will work better …It’s a matter of trial and error. Regards Fred

I honestly don’t think you should trust Norton regarding advice on your existing drivers. The only reputable source about drivers is your hardware’s manufacturer. Take everyone else’s advice with (more than) a grain of salt.

My pc uses Nvidia, I go to their web site using Internet Explorer and use the auto search feature.

      29026-RR

Search for both, once downloaded, install the Motherboard then the Graphics drivers with your Anti Virus program disabled.
