I was stumped on a problem and routed the issue to another group that was local to the client and was suprised to see the resolution so I thought I’d ask if anyone has seen this.
The issue was reported as: “MS Access reports that she does not have enough memory. MS Office Word Word has insufficient memory.”
I checked event log for clues, checked virtual memory, etc., forced a chkdsk /f reboot, eventually uninstalled Office, cleaned the MSOCacheall users folder, reinstalled Office. When client said using Outlook (Word as editor) and trying to attach a Word doc Outlook would lock up, I deleted the normal.dot file but it was not any different.
I sent to the local group and they fixed the issue as noted below:
“Called client and remoted in. Renamed the office folder to officebak. Had client restart machine.
On a standalone PC, it would be:
c:documents and settings%username%Application DataMicrosoftOffice
It should contain files like Word11.pip, Excel11.pip and must have a folder called Recent in it. Client tested.”
I’ve not heard of a missing or corrupt “OfficeRecent” folder causing the symptoms being encountered.
Just curious if this is a known issue and resolution.
Thanks,
Jester
