    Just purchased Office Home and Business 2024, but when I install it, it comes up as Microsoft 365. When I look at the “About…” for Outlook it shows Microsoft Outlook for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2411 build 16.0.18227.20082) 64 bit”.

    Tried uninstalling everything, restarting and reinstalling – same result. Contacted the supplier and they gave me a new key to try – same result. On the download screen it definitely shows the correct product name in the dropdown. Also under the Installed Programs screen it does give the correct product name and displays the same build number 16.0.18227.20082!

    Does anyone have more info on this? A bug?? Just a quirk of the product? Maybe MS wanting to label everything “365”?

    Many thanks, Peter

      I just worked on a computer today that recently installed Home/Office and under Apps is Shows Microsoft 365 Home.

      Did either of these cases purchase the license from Microsoft for the MS-advertised price?

      Or did they come from an unauthorized source for a too-good-to-be-true price? Bargain? Advertisment on some website? Amazon sub-contractor?

      • #2727266

        Actually purchased from the MS Company Store so it’s definitely legit. The other reply suggests it might be “by design”.

        The machine I worked on purchased license from Amazon w/Amazon as seller.

      the sad thing is that I could not find anywhere how to contact Microsoft support to talk to them about it! every link I found on the Microsoft support website took me to a dead end. Not even a chat link, let along a human contact.

      I am THIS close to switching to Apple…

      Just purchased Office Home and Business 2024, but when I install it, it comes up as Microsoft 365.

      is this Office Home and Business 2024 still a retail/perpetual version (C2R)? Or are you now on a yearly renewal schedule?

        Office Home and Business 2024 is a one time purchase for 1 PC or Mac.

        While the link posted by @joep517 shows Office Home and Business 2024 is perpetual, you have to click Learn more > under the Office Home and Business 2024 listing to actually see its price (which is $100 more than Office Home.)

        Also, according to the FAQs section at that Learn more > link (note the highlighting I added):

        Office 2024 is a one-time purchase that comes with classic apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for PC or Mac, and does not include any of the services that come with a Microsoft 365 subscription. One-time purchases don’t have an upgrade option, which means if you plan to upgrade to the next major release, you’ll have to buy it at full price.

          Yes, the one time purchase plans have been that way for a while (since Office 2016 I think). Microsoft is trying to make it more attractive to go the subscription route. If you have more than one PC, the Microsoft 365 family plan is better IMO.

          Also, search the internet for deals on all the plans before you buy. You can regularly get a discount.

      It’s a quirk in how Office 2024/2021/2019 are installed — nothing to worry about.

      If you check File | Account in Word/XL/PPT it should show Office 2024 under Product Activated on the right.

      Another way to check is to open Excel and check the Data tab. Only Excel 2024 will have the Data Types section (Stocks, Currencies etc).

      An even better way is to use the command

      cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus

      which shows all the Office licences installed on the machine. https://office-watch.com/2022/what-office-license-do-you-have-retail-volume-or-oem/

      It is confusing when there are mentions of “Microsoft 365” appearing – for example at Account | Update Options.

      What’s going on?
      Based on reports and my own experience, it seems that most current Office apps (Microsoft 365 and perpetual licence) use the same or very similar installed software. The licence details control what features appear in the software when it’s started.

      It makes sense to have a single code base to develop and manage instead of separate branches.

      Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn’t seem to be as careful as they should about replacing “Microsoft 365” with “Office 2024” etc in all the right places.

        Thanks Peter – I checked out the points you listed and Excel did have those Data Types. I also found that it’s listed with the correct name in Add/Remove Programs. The odd things is that when I look under File | Account it shows as Microsoft 365 but there is a link “show additional product information” and when I click that, it inserts  “Office Home and Business 2024” below the 365 name and above the buttons! Strange – but it works and I have a legit license (for it and Microsoft 365)  so I’m going to stop worrying about it.

        Thanks to all who responded.

      Like others on this thread, I just purchased (from NewEgg) and installed Office Home and Business 2024.

      Prior to installing the software I used Revo Uninstaller Pro to remove Office Home and Business 2021 from the system.

      I then installed 2024.

      But:
      • When I go to Apps > Installed apps – I see Microsoft Office Home and Business 2024;
      • When I go to Excel Account it shows Microsoft Microsoft Office Home and Business 2021;
      • When I check the Excel Data tab and go to the Data Types section it does not show Stocks, Currencies etc.;
      • When I opened Outlook “2024″ for the first time it was already set up with Account Settings as they were in the Outlook 2021 that I had uninstalled earlier.

      The whole reason for moving to Office 2024 were problems I was having with my Outlook 2021 calendars. Now the problems have migrated to Outlook 2024.

      Is there any way to get a CLEAN installation of Office 2024?

      The download page needs to differentiate the downloads, and keep it separate on the computer, like I have word 2010 and 365 for office 2024, and my research is dramatically being affected by this anxiety.
