AskWoody LoungerJuly 3, 2019 at 2:01 pm #1867248Does anyone know how to determine whether the Office 2010 Filter Pack SP2 has been previously installed? This would be a necessary prerequisite in order to install this month’s update KB3114879.
It is also unclear to me whether WU would only offer the update provided that the Office 2010 Filter Pack SP2 has been previously installed.

ManagerJuly 3, 2019 at 2:13 pm #1867283To find out if a patch has been installed, look in “View installed updates.”
In Win7/8.1 the link is in the Control Panel under Windows Updates.
In Win10, type “View installed updates” in the search box. -

AskWoody LoungerJuly 3, 2019 at 3:46 pm #1867354Hi PKCano,
Your link to the catalog entry indicates that KB2878281 is the prerequisite update. It would be nice if Microsoft posted that information in its support page for this update as well. The best that I could research was that the Filter Pack SP2 first came out in 2013 under KB2687447. Obviously, there have been other updates since that introduction.

AskWoody LoungerJuly 4, 2019 at 4:57 pm #1868865I’m not sure which would be the appropriate forum to post this question; so let me apologize up front if this isn’t the right place.ย ย But let me ask it here for now.
I have a Win 8.1 Pro system with MS Office 2010 Pro.ย Based on the Defcon-4 setting I did a Check for Updates earlier today.ย The Windows updates appeared as expected, and I installed them without any issues.ย But for the Office 2010 updates, there was only 1 security update listed — KB4461619 (for Word 2010).ย It also installed OK.
But here’s my question.ย Susan’s Master Patch List shows 2 security patches for Office 2010 released in June — KB4461619 (for Word 2010) and KB4462178 (for Office 2010).ย Why would Windows Update offer me KB4461619, but not KB4462178?
Note: After restarting, I checked my Installed Updates, and I confirmed that KB4462178 is definitely not installed on this system.ย So it’s still missing.ย Does anyone know why this system is only getting 1 of these 2 security patches?

AskWoody MVPJuly 5, 2019 at 1:42 am #1869280From the MS page.
Note:ย To apply this security update, you must have the release version ofย Service Pack 2 for Office 2010ย installed on the computer. If you have the SP then you can go to this MS page to download the patch directly.
cheers, Paul

AskWoody_MVPJuly 5, 2019 at 6:12 am #1869473KB4462178 (and all Kb24286772010* updates) are specific to certain non public hotfix for Office 2010

Finally got the answer back we need:“The functionality is included in the KB2428677 and is provided only to specific customers by Microsoft (enrolled in a particular program related to specific add-ins). The package is not publically distributed nor is it necessary for proper operation of the product.
The security update published under KB2767913 can be installed only if the KB2428677 exists on the machine

AskWoody LoungerJuly 5, 2019 at 3:40 pm #1869965Thanks for the info.ย ย That explains why Windows Update never offered up KB4462178.ย ย It also explains why when I tried to download and install the patch manually (from MS-KB4462178), I got the message: “There are no products affected by this package installed on this system.”ย ย Mystery solved.ย ย Thanks again.

AskWoody_MVPJuly 6, 2019 at 7:13 pm #1870580RE: Office Update Patches?? Am assiduous about OS security updates, but . . . havenโt patched Office 2003 for years. Soo how badly am I vulnerable in real-world terms?
Probably about as bad as I am with the 2 computers that have Office 2000 on them.
Before you wonder "Am I doing things right," ask "Am I doing the right things?"anonymous
GuestJuly 7, 2019 at 2:06 pm #1870966I’ve got Office 2010 with an interesting predicament. I’m being offered the Filter Pack KB3114879, but not the general update for Office KB3114397, even though, according to Installed Updates in Programs and Features, I have the prerequisite for the latter and not the former. Not sure why.
I don’t plan on installing any of these Office updates anytime soon, but if somebody’s got insight as to why Windows Update is offering the one update that I might not be able to install anyway, I’d appreciate it.
