Offline Files Folder

If you turn on File Synchronization, Windows creates an Offline Files Folder and maintains copies of network files and folders (that you indicate) in this folder. The question is “Where does Windows keep this folder?” I want to open this folder in Windows Explorer but can’t find it.

I believe the offline files cache is a hidden folder structure at %SystemRoot%CSC – from memory, modifying any file in it can possibly damage the entire cache.

Oooh, that sounds like fun!

So I open said CSC folder just to look around. Everybody in there is all… encrypted. File names are numbers. File contents are also numbers. And the air smells of faintly rancid lard.

It sounds like this whole topic is a bit scary, but I am having a tenacious problem that seems to involve the offline folder cache.

Our network admins moved our “home drives” to another server with more free space. I keep some of the folders on this network drive synchronized with offline folders. I modified some of the files while offline when the drive was moved.

Now, when I connect to the network, the Offline Files Sync function ries to synchronize with the old location. I have diasbled the Offline Folders functionality, tried deleting the files and reenabling the offline functionality, but somehow, the bad synchronization link is persistent when I re-enable Offline Folders.

Do you have any ideas about how to scrub this old link/file. If Offline folders are enabled I cannot delete the offending file (it says it is being used by another application). I have no idea how to proceed. This is actually creating other problems by disrupting my ability to see the old server which I still need to be able to use.
