I’m setting up a new computer With Windows 7 professional and am transferring Outlook 2007 messages and address book from another “old” Windows 7 Professional OL 2007 install.
I’ve successfully moved the PST file to the new computer and all message folders appear to have come through OK.
My problem is with transferring the old Outlook install’s “Contacts”.
First off, in the old install, the user’s contacts show as empty when the icon is clicked; however, he has always been able to access his email addresses by just starting to type into the “TO” field in a new message, and then some sort of search occurs which shows all of the contacts containing the letters he has started to type.
This is not occurring in the new Outlook install, even after I have transferred the PST file. No matter what I type, no “search” is accomplished. (And, as with the “old” computer, clicking the contacts icon shows everything as empty.)
Both computers are joined to a Domain, but I have them at home right now and am operating them disconnected from the domain. Stiil, the old computer can show its e-mail addresses in the “To” search, but not the new one.
So my question is this, where is the old computer storing it’s searchable contacts list? Could it have been somehow migrated from the user’s account on the domain and now just magically is stored within Outlook? Could/would this happen if I connect the new machine to the domain and start up Outlook? (Or where else can it be? FWIW, I’ve followed the process stated in the MS document titled “Contact information does not appear in the address book in Outlook” – kb 287563 – with NO success. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287563)
I’m a bit pressed on this, as I am trying to get the new computer up and working by tomorrow (Tuesday) morning, so an help is appreciated.
