confused I’m soon going to take the plunge and get a Palm, Handspring, or whatever. Main reason is to have Outlook available at all times.
My “.pst” file hovers between 25-30,000 Kb. Do the pocket PCs use memory differently, or only download parts of the pst file? How much memory do I need, leaving room for growth?
Opinions (jaded or otherwise!) on whose making the best units would be appreciated too.
    Thanks in advance.

Windows CE allows you to select what mail messages you synch with your palmtop. The default behaviour is to synch

      • Just the inbox
      • Just the first 500 bytes of each message
      • Just items received in the past 5 days
      • No attachments
[/list]You can change all of these settings to suit your needs, but I don’t think you’re going to be able to download your entire 30MByte PST file.

I can do without email on the go – my main concern would be my calendar (a few hundred entries) and contacts list (about 1000 entries). Am I in the wrong ballpark, or can any of them handle this?

I sync my calendar (many entries) and my contacts (less than a hundred entries). My previous reply was just referring to filtering of mail messages.

My PST file is 46,080 kb in size. I sync the calendar and contacts without any problem. I keep very little email.

Thanks – now how much free memory in “palmtop” do I need to accomodate a file that big? Same as a laptop? Can other elements of Office, limited as they might be, be running simultaneously? I seem to see only total memory advertised; how much free RAM is what I might be after?

On my IPaq, I can see the free memory from Start > Settings > System > Memory. It appears as two categories, Storage and Program. Each has figures for Allocated, In Use and Free. Even with all my contacts, calendar, quite a lot of mails (first 500 bytes only) and a few assorted documents I am only using 8MBytes of Storage.

Thanks. I guess the total program memory usage is very different with the “palmtops”.

And you’re working with how much free memory on the “palmtop” ?
