I started trying to solve this problem with a post [h=3]”Program worked for years – now failed“[/h]in the General Productivity forum – it got moved to the General Windows and I’ve narrowed it down to a Windows 10 problem and am re-writing it here.
It’s a Fugawi map reading program for the UK Ordnance Survey maps. I’ve had it for 12 years and it has worked happily through XP, W7 , and now W10 for 4 months until last week, when it would not load its data storage file and would not re-create it – when the program was closed, a window reported “Invalid File” and required to be clicked twice to remove.
A friend suggested that I try running it as Administrator – ie right clicking on the desktop icon. This produced a Windows pop up saying it was from an Unknown Producer, did I want to continue. Yes – and the program runs perfectly, producing a data store and re-loading it. But if I then try to run the program normally from the desktop, I get a Windows message:-
“/red cross/ Exception ERegistryException (that’s not a typo!) in module Fugawi.exe at 0037376. Failed to set data for extension”.
Clearly I could continue just to run it through the administrator but that’s a bit tedious, and also doesn’t satisfy the enquiring mind as to why and can it be solved.
Windows 10 is at version 1511 – that is AU has not appeared yet for me.
Thanks for any help
Rob
