I need some advice. I am having all kinds of problems with the regular windows updates for my W7/SP1 Home and Pro computers. It gets hung up on Searching for Updates or when it finds updates, it keeps saying downloading but staying at 0%. I did a repair/install of Windows and it worked for a month and now same thing.

My question: I posted before and WSUS Offline was suggested. Do I specify SP1 when I d/l updates via WSUS? Also, lets say it d/l 400 updates bur 350 are already installed. Will it just install the remaining 50 and hence not take too long? If so, that may be my new way of updating my machines.

It will probably try to install all of them but you’ll get a lot of failures for those already installed.

These commands run from a command prompt run as an admin can sometimes resolve the hung download, but if you’ve gotten the updates and are just waiting for the download, then just leave them and they’ll probably download in their own time.

      net stop wuauserv

      net stop bits

      ren C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

      net start wuauserv

      net start bits

      shutdown /r /t 00
