I have <20 files in my OneDrive account. I often open two files from the account and copy and paste between the two. When I’m finished, I close them. OneDrive appears to sync at that time.

But when I click the OneDrive icon in my notification area, I get a warning that says “A file is in use by another application. Tap or click for more info.”

There is nothing to tap or click.

The warning appears in a window above the icons for the two files I’ve just used, both of which seem to be in good order.

I can close all applications, but the warning persists. The only way I’ve found to get rid of it is to restart my computer.

I have a screen shot of all of it, but I can’t figure out how to post an image in this new system.

Scroll down further for the Attaching of files.

The broken link obviously indicates this site does not allow use of Snippy screen shots so had to go “old school”.

The only attachments allowed at the moment are pictures no larger that 1MB – jpg, png, tif, maybe bmp.
You should use the “Select File” box at the bottom and point to the file.
Once attached, you can use the “Insert in content” to put it in the reply. Be careful – it will usually insert where the blinking cursor is located.

If it goes in the wrong place, just cut & paste the attachment text/code like any other text. Or cut & paste the other text in the post.

I have the same problem occasionally. I just ignore it as the file in question has successfully synced. I can’t remember if it clears itself or after I’ve restarted the PC in the morning.

Well yeah, I’m under the impression that there’s a long-standing open file reference count bug somewhere in Windows.

I’ve been seeing these occasionally since at least NT4, haven’t yet found how to prevent.

Having this happen with OneDrive is reasonably benign compared to removable devices that then can’t be safely removed without a reboot…
