I recently switched to Win 10 and still are getting used to some of the differences from Win 7. I notice that whenenver I save a file, explorer pops up showing me where the file is being saved. I don’t remember this behaviour before and don’t need this extra tab on my screen. How can I suppress this ?

AskWoody PlusJanuary 24, 2020 at 5:18 pm #2100410Hi PK,
this morning I did a screenshot with an external program but I noticed that previously with other programs too. Downloads from the browser don’t seem to be affected but I think it happened when I scanned something. I will try to pay attention next time I get irritated by this behaviour.
One other idiosyncrasy I noticed is that while doubleclicking a pdf file will open it with Sumatra as my preferred reader but the file remains in the background, so I need to click on the tab first. In Win 7 the file opened maximised. Again, this is a minor annoyance but is there a way to get the same behaviour in Win 10.

ManagerJanuary 24, 2020 at 5:35 pm #2100414FYI The ask where to download is a choice in Firefox Settings. Perhaps you should look through the settings of the program and see if there is a default download location and it it’s supposed to ask first.
Incidentally, it might be a pain when you KNOW you are downloading something, but that behavior is a safety precaution. If a website or external program trys to download something like malware, that popup will warn you – “Hey, I didn’t ask for that. Maybe I shouldn’t allow it.”

AskWoody PlusJanuary 24, 2020 at 5:45 pm #2100416PK, sorry but you misunderstand. The question where to download or which folder to use as default is fine and has been the same in Win 7. What annoys me is that once this command has gone through and the file was downloaded, explorer opens up again, maybe to assist you to doubleclick and then open the download but I don’t want that. Not everything I download needs to be dealt with immediately.
