To start off I am generally one to avoid optional windows updates on my windows pc’s due to bad experiences in the past. My question is should those optional security and quality rollup for .net framework be avoided on windows 7/8.1 also. I know generally updates for .net framework are important but considering it’s being offered as optional instead of important has me cautious. Last thing I want is to run into issues that cause my computers to be unusable but at the same time I take security seriously. Any advice on this would be appreciated.

We do not recommend installing any unchecked update.
.NET Rollups that are in the Important Update queue and CHECKED are safe to install.

In the Jan update .Net 4.8 is checked.  Why upgrade to 4.8 if Win 7 itself will not receive further updates?  Strange!

.NET Framework 4.8 KB4503548 is the installer for .NET 4.8 = It hasn’t been recommended for Win7 unless you have applications that require it. Yes, it is checked. If your applications don’t need it, hide it for now.

Don’t know if any apps need .Net.  But my original thought was why would MS upgrade .Net  on a unsupported OS?

Which speaking of:  MSE updated to 1l17 created definitions this AM so when is the real end of 7?
