Can you show multiple dotted line reporting relationships using PowerPoint org chart? For example, a communications director would have a solid line reporting relationship to the VP, communication, but at the same time could have a dotted-line reporting relationship to the CEO and CFO. How can you show those multiple dotted-line relationships?

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 17, 2004 at 12:10 am #878211I don’t have 2003 available right now, but I think that you can do these sort of complex relationships by duplicating the chart and placing one over the top of the other and use solid lines on the one and dotted lines on the other.. Klugie & tough to maintain, but it gets the job done. –Sam

Just create the Org Chart using the PPT Org Chart slide layout (or one of the content layouts), then, with the org chart still “active,” click on Autoshapes/Connectors on your PPT Drawing toolbar. Draw in the connector and then format to taste using the various line width, color, and dotted/not dotted icons on the Drawing toolbar.
You can, of course, draw regular lines as well, but the connectors will move as you move the actual textblocks…
