    I have several items in my “Add or Remove Programs” list which I cannot remove. I’ve gone into the Registry and checked ALL of the items in “HKM/software/microsoft/windows/current version/uninstall” and they aren’t there. I also did a search for both “Nero” and “Ahead” and that turned up empty as well. When I try to uninstall any of them, the prompt says it can’t find the item which shows should be in “%Temp~0000NERO1002529unit_app_19” or similar for each item.

    So, how do I get rid of these items? I’m not sure if they are leftovers from version 7 or version 8?

      You can try Revo Uninstaller Freeware – Uninstall Software, Remove Programs, Solve uninstall problems. It is pretty good at removing loeftover traces of programs.

        @Joe: Tried “Revo Uninstaller” and the entries were not found; same as with RegSupreme Pro… but thanks for the suggestion.

        @Rebel: CCleaner didn’t remove them. Also tried installing the program and uninstalling again, but the items remained in the list.

        @Doc
        : No, the option to remove them wasn’t offered, which would have been ideal.

        Okay… I finally succeeded in removing these several items via the Registry. What I did differently when running a Find was to remove the check in the box for “Match whole string only” and enter in the very first part of the file(s), which was the same for all. Each item was found and deleting them removed the items from the list.

        Thanks for the suggestions guys… that’s what makes this place so great!

          Glad you got it worked out. Thanks for posting your solution.

      If these are indeed orphaned entries, you can simply delete them with a tool such as CCleaner . If they are actually legitimate entries, have you tried to reinstall and then uninstall the applications?

      If you attempt to uninstall these entries, and are told they cannot be found, are you not offered the option to remove the item from the list ??

      Jeff,
      Hello again. when i purchased a new optical drive “nero” (trial found out later) came with it. After i installed nero and found it to be a trial only, i didn’t want to fool with it so i deleted it or so i thought. Did all the suggestions mentioned …no luck ! there were still nero icons that i could not remove even though they would no longer work, Think that they were hiding under a different name (possibly) the only thing that i could do was to do a “acronis recovery” That worked ,so thats my 2cents. good luck Regards Fred

      Hi Jeff,

      I did read where you were able to remove the stray bits. Nero does have two cleanup tools that I have used in the past and can vouch that they do clean out all the Nero leftovers. There is one cleanup tool for Nero 8 and another for Nero 9. Not sure if they would work for earlier versions.

      Anyway, here’s the link for getting the removal tools if you ever need them in the future. Look under the Tools and Utilities segment.

      Cheers, Bob

        Thanks Bob for the link. Yes, I did use the “Nero Clean Tool”, which was for version 7 and I thought I also had one for version 8 which I ran but neither took care of those Registry entries. Actually, I wouldn’t expect they would since it appeared that the location wasn’t typically where Nero put files and as you can see from my screenshot, they were duplicated too. However, I am going to get both the version 8 and 9 Clean Tool and keep them in my “toolbox”. grin
