When printing from Outlook 2010 the printer (a new Brother MFC-7440) insists on printing ONLY from the manual feeder, one sheet at a time. ALL other applications will print NORMALLY. In Outlook, it defaults to Manual: when I force it to either Auto Select or Tray 1, through Print Properties it reverts to Manual and the LCD display shows “Manual Feed – Insert Paper”. I repeat: this ONLY happen in Outlook; ALL OTHER APPS PRINT NORMALLY. The Printer Properties in Printers and Devices are correctly configured for “Auto Select” for paper source. I’m running Windows 7 Ultimate with all updates current. The printer is configured as a network printer through a Linksys Wireless N router. A laptop on the same network prints OK from Win 7 and Outlook 2003 to the new Brother. Are there any known issues with Outlook 2010? I can find no setting(s) in Outlook that would cause such a result. Brother Tech Support feels that it’s a defect or conflict of some sort in Outlook but the print function works normally to a DIFFERENT printer on the network. Can all that brain power out there point me in the right direction?

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 8, 2011 at 12:12 pm #1262210Is this 32-bit Outlook or 64-bit Outlook?
Have you tried reinstalling the driver for the printer?
Joe
Hi Joe
It’s 32 bit. No I haven’t reinstalled the driver. In all other apps it works as it should. The Brother support tech felt, and I agree, that since it was only Outlook that was misbehaving, it was the most likely culprit. I suppose that it wouldn’t hurt to try. I could also reinstall Outlook but there is the possibility that the issue is in the .pst file, in which case the cure may be worse that the disease with my extensive contact list and Calendar. I’m hoping that someone here has seen or heard of this before and has a “Hey, Presto!” fix.Mike

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 8, 2011 at 12:38 pm #1262214It seems to be a conjugation of Outlook 2010 and that printer. I can print without any issues from Outlook 2010 to a networked HP. Can anyone else on your network with Outlook 2010 test with that printer?
Unfortunately, no one else on the network has 2010. I’m looking around for someone with a laptop with 2010. I just reinstalled the printer driver, removing the old one with Revo Uninstaller first. No joy. I can also print without issues to another printer on the network, also an HP.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 14, 2011 at 9:06 pm #1263212I’d make a copy of the pst file and save it if you want to re-install Outlook. I had a problem with a All-in-One HP printer as I couldn’t do duplex printing as I did previously. I’m not sure how a Brothers works. With the HP I right clicked on the printer icon to get properties, listed in the drop down menu was printer properties, clicked on it and the next screen brought a group of optiions, click on devices and made sure to click on duplex print if your printerdoes duplex printing and close.
Regards,
MJ
