• Outlook 2010 Repeating Downloads

We have recently installed Outlook 2010, upgrading from 2007.

When we first started Outlook 2010, all of the e-mails still sitting on the server and previously downloaded by 2007 were again downloaded.

Since then each time we start Outlook the old e-mails still on the server and not yet deleted are again downloaded.

    Very annoying.

We have now set Outlook to delete the e-mails from the server as soon as they are read, but this is a workaround not a solution.

Can anyone advise on why this problem is happening and what we can do to stop it.

    Thanks.

    Jock

I am a stand alone user with Outlook 2007. I am having the identical problem. After I shut down my PC and reboot the server downloads e-mails which I have previously deleted. Very annoying.

First, I assume you both have a POP mail server, not Microsoft Exchange. Outlook stores “somewhere” some information about where to resume downloading. It sounds as though this information is not being saved successfully between sessions. If this is saved in the file system or registry, perhaps there is a permission problem preventing Outlook from updating it. Which OS are each of you using and are you running Outlook as the administrator or with lower privileges? Hopefully someone more familiar with the details of how this is stored can chime in.

Thanks for your thoughts on the matter.

I’ll follow up the link you provided.

For the record, we are running Windows XP SP3 as administrator. It is a POP mail server.
