Outlook 2013 RSS feed from Askwoody has just stopped working, saying unable to connect to server. Trying to reconnect just downloads an atom file that Outlook 2013 does not seem to like.

    Any thoughts please

Have you tried setting it up again?  https://www.askwoody.com/feed/  We haven’t changed anything on the back side.

I’ll check with the hoster.  Sometimes they put in blocks on the server side to protect the site from attackers and sometimes we find out that “Oh, that got impacted!”

so retried a number of times to set the RSS feed up again and it suddenly connected and went in

Will monitor the RSS feed to see if it stays in place. Not sure if it is an intermittent issue

      Thanks for checking

      Hello Susan,

Please be aware that we blocked an attack from botnet over the last several days from approximately 9000 IP addresses. Activities of botnet loaded WEB and DB servers very high and could affect website functionality. Botnet used very old browsers versions, Firefox 1 – 59, Chrome 1 – 59, Trident 1 -7 and YaBrowser to requests absolutely different website pages.

The only common between these HTTP connections was that for the most HTTP requests they used user-agents in lower-case, like “firefox/23.5” or “chrome/45.2”.

To filter this malicious traffic we create rules on the Web server level to block browsers in lower case “firefox 1 – 59”, “chrome 1 – 59”, and “Trident 1 -7” in both, upper and lower case.

And looks like the second rule related to Trident could affect Outlook 2013 because it uses user-agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/7.0; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Outlook 15.0)

We have now disabled rule related to user-agents with “Trident” pattern.
