• Outlook.com Issues?

My dad has a problem with the free outlook.com who uses the latest Thunderbird email client to send/ retrieve emails on W10 22H2. He has had this account for years..

Since January, his regular previously subscribed and personal emails have stopped being retrieved by outlook.com webmail.

There have been no end-user changes to account settings within Thunderbird or outlook.com, I double checked, and have recently sent and he received an email from myself which came through fine.

I then checked via his outlook.com webmail account to find all of his expected subscription and regular monthly emails were simply not there for January and February. I’ve checked everywhere within webmail to find the last predicted email being in late December 2023 and he hasn’t unsubscribed anything.

The account has 2FA and OATH for Thunderbird set up correctly so, what gives?
If it’s not on the webmail server, where are those emails? Who is responsible for this level of competence..grrr

    1. Have MSFT broken outlook.com with recent security/ functionality in favor of advert implementations? (IMO adverts are a way in to destruction YMMV)

    2. Anyone else missing regular emails from outlook.com since December 2023?

    3. Anyone else encountering a similar scenario?

When they do fix it, I expect a backlog of old emails gushing through, is what I explained to my dad. Some of which are personal and timely important! /grrrr

At Outlook.com, Settings, Email, Junk email; make sure this is unchecked:

      Only-trust-safe-senders

(As Junk is permanently deleted after 10 days.)

Not sure if this will be of any help, but my outlook.com e-mails suddenly stopped coming through to Outlook (MS Office 2021 Pro) on 30 January 2024. I use outlook.com as a secondary/emergency POP e-mail address. On checking Microsoft’s outlook.com server settings, I noticed that they had changed the outgoing server from smtp.office365.com (which had been working for years) to smtp-mail.outlook.com  As soon as I changed the outgoing setting to this, outlook.com has been working fine for me. Thanks @b, Whilst logged into Outlook.com Webmail service:
checked the Filter to find a similar setting that’s already unchecked.

Thanks @dgc-art, as per below linked MSFT documentation,
what he has is the same and works in Thunderbird for POP3:

      https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/server-settings-you-ll-need-from-your-email-provider-c82de912-adcc-4787-8283-45a1161f3cc3

      Server: outlook.office365.com
      Port: 995
      OAuth2 and SSL/TLS both enabled.
Messages are left on server indefinitely.
Storage Max on FREE Outlook.com is 5Gb and only has 220mb of used space.
Only uses one device to access his email (W10 22H2 laptop)

I’m sure it’s MSFT Outlook servers not receiving regular monthly emails after January in his email account, that’s the issue.
We are both at a loss and the head scratching continues..

Is he using “focused and other”?

Did he receive the email correctly in Thunderbird during that period?

Are there any rules set up?

@dgc-art, that’s weird, as i noticed the change of server (that is, in outlook.com settings pane, in Mail >>> Sync, it used to tell you which server to use. Now it just points to that link you posted)

However, I haven’t had any issues sending/receiving at any point. I have a ‘free’ outlook.com account and another PC with another family member’s ‘premium’ account from a Microsoft 365 subscription – both are set to use smtp.office365.com in Thunderbird, which is what the outlook.com settings window pane said to use when they were setup early last year.
