Office updated this morning and now emails no longer contain the Delete Icon on the RHS of the email. The only icons that show when you click on an email (not opening it) are the flag and attachment icons (when required).

They have included a far RHS of Outlook series of icons that includes the delete icon – the series takes up space that I don’t want to give it but it apparently cannot be removed.

Anyway I now have to move the mouse to this list, or right-click and scroll to the bottom of the list to get the delete icon, or press the delete key.

Does anyone know how to get the delete icon back as an option on the email itself?

rant/ I hate the way MS keeps ‘improving’ things by taking away useful functions and/or requiring greater mouse movements or more clicks. Improvements should make my life easier not harder with so-called improvements removing features that have been available for years /rant-off

Sounds like you have switched into “Touch Mode”, which does exactly that with delete etc.

The only way I know of to switch back to Mouse Mode is to add a “finger” icon called “Touch/Mouse Mode” to the Quick Access Toolbar at very top left, if it’s not there already. That finger icon gives you a drop-down menu to select Mouse or Touch:

      Outlook’s Touch Screen mode

Brilliant, that was it. I don’t think I’d have ever thought to look at that. Seems that after every update in Office or Windows that I’m hunting down some little change (and some not so little) and fixing things back to the way I like/need it.

In this case, I have a SP4 and a second hi-res screen. So the latest Office update detected the touch screen of the SP4 and defaulted to the touch screen mode, ignoring the attached hi-res non-touch screen which becomes my default when sitting at my desk.

      So all fixed, thanks.
