Outlook – Exchange Requests (OL2002 – EX5.5)

I have 15 OL2002 users and 1 Exchange Server 5.5. (If I’m posting in the wrong spot, forgive me!
Early this morning we noticed that Outlook started displaying a box that says “Outlook is retreiving data from the MS Exchange server. You can cancel this request…..” and its been downhill ever since. All my users are reporting this message box appearing and canceling the request does nothing or it disappears only to reappear almost immediately. The server(NT 4.0 SP6) is being heavily bogged down by these requests. Is this an Exchange server or Outlook issue and how can I fix it?
