    Hi All, Advice please if possible!

    For sometime now Outlook has been repeatedly asking for the password to each of the Exchange accounts I have. (Win 10 Pro 64bit, Office 2013 Pro Plus, everything updated as far as possible). It does not happen for the Imap accounts also accessed from the same instance of Outlook.

    I have repeatedly tried all the suggestions I’ve found online (yes, from Microsoft’s pages too!). Deleted Credentials for the affected accounts, various Registry key tweaks, have run MS Support & Recovery Assistant along with MFCMAPI. Nothing has made a difference. Anyone else have this issue? Thanks for any input you can give.

      Sounds like a fairly recent “known issue”:

      Outlook and other apps are unable to connect to Outlook.com when using Basic authentication

      But from user discussions I’m not clear what the long-term solution will be:

      Sorry no advice, but having the same problem since 1-26-24. In my case I have 2fa with an app password set up for PC use with 2013 Outlook. After confusion on my part and having to recover my email due to too many bad login attempts, I discovered that just entering the app password once or twice satisfies the login request. Also the issue is intermittent.

      It does not happen for the Imap accounts also accessed from the same instance of Outlook.

      They probably have not added Outlook 2013 yet to their list of legacy apps that require OAuth.

        Thanks. Appears that it will not be an option. Presumably pushing everyone to go 365 subscription version. Might have to revert to using Thunderbird. Recently retired from work, so expect I can live without the convenience of having the integrated Outlook calendar.

      Been a while but back in my days as a Windows network admin using Exchange I found the only fix was to delete the Outlook profile on the client PC. My assumption was the profile had become corrupted but was never able to find a definitive cause.
