• Page Setup Default (Word 97 SR2)

Sometime in the last couple of weeks, I must have done something to change the defaults in Word, but now I can’t figure out how to ‘permanently’ change things back.

What is happening is that every time I open Word, the Page SetupPaper Source option(s) get defaulted to “Manual Paper Feed” every time. I can manually change it for one document, but have been unsuccessful in making the default “Automatically select”.

Does anyone have ideas on how I can change this?

Open Word with a new blank document.

Goto File|Page Setup… Paper Source Tab.

Change that to Auto, or whichever bin you want, then click the Default… button in the lower right corner.

This will make all the settings in the Page Setup dialog the new defaults for printing.

        That worked. Thanks.

However, I didn’t explain my problem well enough, or I have a different problem. After making the changes suggested above, when I open an existing document and check the settings they are set on manual paper tray. It is almost like every exisiting word document had its properties changed to the manual paper tray.

        Any other suggestions?

Um, yea, but you probably won’t like it.

You are going to have to change them one at a time and then resave them.

But you will need to check under File|Page Setup.. and Tools|Options… Print Tab.

Another thought that just occurred to me is, are you sure your PRINTER defaults haven’t been changed?

Start|Settings|Control Panel|Printers Right Click on your printer and select Properties. From there you will have to hunt around for the appropriate Tab to change the default printer bin, since each printer seems to have a different layout.

Is it possible to use this idea and do something similar with the default paper tray?

Actually Yes it is, but it’s not quite so straight forward.

              With ActiveDocument.PageSetup
              .DefaultTry = “Auto”
              End With

But the word ‘Auto’ may be different from printer to printer.
