Please help! (I know you guys love that beginning…)

OK, on Monday my Palm Vx suddenly was unable to HotSync. The window popped up — but it looked different. Instead of the 3 icons, there were only two. The HotSync never occurred. I rebooted my Win98SE box. I reinstalled Chapura Pocket Mirror. I downloaded the newer version of PalmDesktop (from 3.5 to 4.1). I soft reset my Palm. I made sure I had the correct Local Sync with the correct COM port. I changed the cradle and cord. Nothing worked. frown

So… I donwloaded and installed the PalmDesktop to my WinXP laptop. Guess what? Same crap. The Window appears — strangly with only two icons — and no sync occurs. Very frustrating.

So… I tried to hard reset my Palm — Reset button and hold the green button. It doesn’t seem to hard reset!

I need my Palm!! What can I do?? Thanks.

SOB. I just hard reset the Palm, and I still get the same problem. On both the WinXP and the Win98 boxes… And now I have none of my programs on the Palm. frown

The 3rd, and missing icon, only appears when the HotSync is actually working. Looking at your snapshot leads one to think that it is trying to connect and cannot. The User: id field is also blank. What I would suggest is 1) check all your connection cables and 2) verify that you have the correct user name.

You indicated that you are using the COM port. Have you checked to ensure that there are no conflicts with your selected COM port? And on that note… have you configured it to use the same COM port. For example, you probably have 2 COM ports. Ensure that software and hardware are both selecting COM1 or COM2 and not a mix.

Since you have performed a hard reset you should be able to set-up your original user name. You might also find that you have your original files still intact on your PC. Go to the folder where you installed your original software and look for the various files. Once found, copy them to safe folder… just in case!!!

      Over to you…

      Cheers,

      Bob
