I use Imagus Chrome extension that Enlarge thumbnails, and show images/videos from links with a mouse hover.

AskWoody PlusOctober 11, 2020 at 1:31 pm #2303304This question has probably been asked before but suppose I happen to really like version 1809 and don’t want to “upgrade” to a newer but not necessarily improved version? Am I just left out in the rain without any thought given to how I feel? This is just one of the many things that really turn me off about MSFT and “Win 10”.

No, Microsoft doesn’t care how you feel as you seem to forget that Windows OS isn’t your but only licensed to use for as long as Microsoft find it fit and you have signed a contract (EULA) giving Microsoft full control over everything Windows OS.

AskWoody PlusOctober 11, 2020 at 2:02 pm #2303316Yes, I know, but the EULA can’t (as yet) prevent me from using any version of Windows I want for as long as I want, I just won’t have MS’s “support”. I can’t totally blame MS for doing this, Linux puts time limits on its versions too.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 11, 2020 at 5:53 pm #2303376I don’t have to totally re-install Firefox (for example) or other applications every six months – I just get updates for what I already have. Even with Office, I need to renew the licence every 12 months, but I am not asked to totally re-install it. So why does Windows need a total re-install every six months or so, with the risk of eventually losing support if it is not done?

GuestOctober 11, 2020 at 6:58 pm #2303383If you are running Home, Pro, Pro education you need to be moving off 1809 after 11-10-2020 and if you are 1903 you need to be right behind them and will be dropping out of support on December 8, 2020
Enterprise, Education and IoT Enterprise also drops out of support 12-8-2020.
Can you please re-word those last 2 chunks a bit to something similar to this for clarity sake?
If you are running Home, Pro, or Pro Education, you need to be moving off 1809 after 11-10-2020. All versions of 1903 will be dropping out of support on 12-8-2020.
It’s not necessarily clear in the original last sentence “what” is losing support for Enterprise.

Refer to AKB2000016 Guide for Windows Update Settings for Win10.If you have Win10 Pro, you can choose versions by manipulating Feature Update deferral times of by using TargetReleaseVersion in Group Policy.
If you have Win10 Home, it’s a little more difficult. You can use TargetReleaseVersion but you have to do a Registry edit for the settings.
Whether you have Home or Pro, you can always use the ISO for the version you want and do an in-place upgrade.
