• Patch Problems? (XP)

    Same problem on two different systems (1 laptop and 1 desktop):

    After applying the Patch Tuesday patches, I was unable to connect to the Internet. Tried ipconfig /release and repair (and /renew) to no avail. The desktop reported unable to clear DNS on the repair approach, but the laptop did not show that error. I could not figure out how to get either to connect to the Internet (both were behind the same DSL wireless router). Desktop is wired to router and Laptop is wireless connection. The router was connected and working fine… something in Windows on the pc prevented the connection for email or Internet. Restored to pre-installation of Patches to regain Internet functionality.

    Anyone else having these problems? I am holding off on patching my work pc’s for now.

        Thanks for the response and I must apologize for the poor placement of my post. After posting, I found similar posts in the General Windows area. It seems that many others have the same problem and https://www.askwoody.com/viewpatch.php%5B/url%5D shows a red light.

        The laptop uses ZoneAlarm and the Desktop uses Avast!

        I just went through the motions to start a Custom Install on one of my work systems and it showed only 2 patches. I suspect MS has pulled to bad one.

      I had a similar problem. I have 2 wired desktops and one wireless laptop, all with ZoneAlarm Security Suite. The Tuesday (July 10th) update was installed on one desktop and my laptop. This morning the one desktop and laptop could not access the Internet with a browser or Outlook. However, Pings were successful. A system restore to the day before the update brought both computers back in good operating condition. I have not yet installed the update on the other desktop and I now see there is an update to install on my laptop. I am not going to install any more updates until this problem is resolved.

        Update KB951748 in combination with ZoneAlarm appears to be the only one causing problems. I don’t think there’s an objection against installing the other ones. On the other hand, it probably won’t hurt if you wait until KB951748 has been repaired before you install all this month’s updates.
