I did look in the lounge, but can’t find the pointer to the patch that eliminates the need for the original CD when patching Office. My laptop died and I’m in the middle of reloading everything on my new laptop. This “insert the Office 2000 Professional” hiccup is @#$!% me off. Wasn’t there a patch / update that got rid of this? I think it was mentioned both here and in Woody’s newsletter. I just want to install all the patches, without having to play swappy-swappy with my one CD-ROM drive on this laptop…

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerMay 2, 2004 at 3:49 am #822300I think you are looking for:
835220 – Office 2000 Update: February 10, 2004“Microsoft has released an update to Microsoft Office 2000. By installing this optional update, the MsiFileHash table for your Microsoft Office product is updated. Updating the MsiFileHash table will help Office reduce the chance that the Office Setup program will need access to your Office 2000 source CD-ROM when you install Office updates in certain scenarios. Additionally, by updating the MsiFileHash table, the need to copy files from your source will be reduced, resulting in faster file copy (when necessary) and reduced network traffic (when applicable).”
It was mentioned in Woody’s OFFICE Watch #9.05. I have not tried it, so I don’t know if/how it work.
Regards,
