The newletter of 04Oct2019 states one should test a patch before installing it. How does one go about doing that without installing the patch ???

Patch reliability is unclear, but widespread attacks make patching prudent. Go ahead and patch, but watch out for potential problems. |

ManagerOctober 5, 2019 at 10:25 am #1975122To test a patch before installing it on a production machine, you would install it in a VM or on a non-production computer. In other words, in a test environment.
Since most home Users do not have access to a test environment, your best bet is to check with AskWoody and read the reports from those who do have test machines, or who blindly install the patches and have problems they report here.
AskWoody and the DEFCON system are a way to avoid installing buggy patches and getting a surprise.1 user thanked author for this post.

AskWoody PlusOctober 8, 2019 at 1:32 pm #1977110I’m on Windows 10 v 1809. Right after a patch installed on 10/03 my HP OfficeJet 6968 stopped working and displayed the message “Problem with Printhead”. Today I tried to uninstall the most recent v1809 patches. I followed the article in Defcon 1 article (to run as admin) and the patches were removed, I rebooted but then when I checked my list of windows updates the two patches were there in the list again, even though I successfully removed them – any Ideas on how to resolve this?
