Patch Watch – all those .NET updates

Hello,

Like many other readers I very much value the Patch Watch column, but have to confess I’ve become quite hopelessly confused as to which .NET updates to ignore and which to install. I’ve routinely hidden the updates – and now seem to have over 20 hidden away (see image).

Maybe it’s just my eyes glazing over whenever this particular subject comes up in the column, but are there some updates that now should be installed? Would it be possible to have a patch update chart that’s specifically for all the .NET updates citing which to install and which to set aside?

Am I in any mortal danger for having ignored all these updates?

Yes, you’re exposing your system to unnecessary risks by not installing updates rated as “Important”.

For example, here are details of the first one in your list, namely KB2446710: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14544

It’s a similar story for the rest, but if you want to check for yourself, just type the KB# in Google and the result will appear at the top of the list.

I would create a full image backup, go forward with the patches and be ready to install this, if any problems arise.
