**PC automatically shuts off after 10 seconds ?**

    Hi all

    I have a Hp elitedesk 800 g5 i7 sff on Windows 10 Pro.

On boot up after a few seconds it shows windows the recovery screen for a few seconds then shuts off. Approx 10 seconds in total.

When I test boot from a different drive (USB) W10 same happens the PC automatically shuts off after about 10 seconds. Same happens when I boot into recovery so can’t boot into safe mode.

When I boot into the BIOS the PC stays on no problem seems to be just when trying to boot into an OS.

    Anyone seen this before?

Side note: Not sure if this PC has been upgraded to windows 11 is there a way to see in the bios?

Also the standard diagnostics hardware tests in the bios processor hard drive, RAM, motherboard all come back ok?

    Thanks in advance ….

    RT

      1. Disconnect non-essential external peripheral attachments except keyboard and mouse. Then try starting PC again.

      2. Physically open the desktop case then start the device doing a visual on the CPU fan, If it don’t spin up, you need a CPU fan assembly. If the fan spins, it’s ok then it will shut down anyway due the fault.

      3. Check each RAM module by process of elimination.
Remove one module at a time trying to boot-up in between to establish if a faulty ram module is responsible. Good luck!

TIP: Remember to take ant-static precautions when removing/ replacing RAM Modules.

Let us know if any of the above sort the issue.

Have done all of the above. Also repasted the cpu. Voltage tested the PSU all good.

System boots W10 from USB no issues.

Seems that the shut off happens only when the sata’s are connected. So if I disconnect the ssd the pc stays on.

Picking up a new ssd tomorrow to test. If that fails my guess is mobo.

result, you can take it from there then 🙂

it couldn’t just be the sata cables need renewed, could it?
That’s my first before shelling out on another SSD needlessly

Might be the just the sata connection to the SSD.  Disconnect & reconnect make sure it’s seated properly.
