I wasn’t quite sure which forum to post this in – sorry if it’s not the right one.

I’m running Win XP, with SP3. Occasionally (not very often), when I print a PDF file from Adobe PDF Reader, the text in the file will print out as gibberish, even though it looks fine on the monitor. Often, printing the file again will produce a correct printout. This has happened with several versions of Adobe Reader (I’m currently using the latest version), and with different printers.

I’m hoping that somebody on this forum has experienced this and come up with a fix or explanation. Any help would be appreciated.

Print the file in question to PDF. Then print the new resulting PDF file to your printer. This has fixed these sorts of problems for me in the past.

Apparently the process of printing a PDF file to PDF causes Adobe to clean up the document; in other words, if Adobe can show it correctly on the screen, it will generate a good PDF file from what you see on the screen.

Jim, thanks for your input. However, the files that print as gibberish always show correctly on the screen, and generally print correctly when I try a second time. But I’ll keep your suggestion in mind when it happens again.
