Is it possible to insert a pdf file into an Access report? I have tried and not succeeded – all I get is an icon. In the design mode I can double click on the icon and it opens up the pdf file. In the report all I see is the icon. I may be asking the impossible??

    Thanks,

It is possible, but since a report is not interactive, you’ll only see the first page of the PDF file. Do it like this:

      – Open the report in design view.
      – Select Insert | Object… or insert an Unbound Object Frame from the Toolbox. A dialog will appear.
      – Click ‘Insert from file’, then click Browse…
      – Locate the PDF file, then click OK twice.

I did that and all I get is the unbound object frame with the pdf icon.

Do you have Adobe Reader installed (or the full Adobe Acrobat)? The OLE Class property of the unbound object frame on my PC is Adobe Acrobat 7.0, and the Class property is AcroExch.Document.7. I assume that this requires Adobe Reader or Acrobat to be installed.

I have Adobe Standard version 6. We all have Adobe reader version 7.

I’m afraid I have no explanation or solution for you. As an alternative, you could put a hyperlink to the .pdf files on a form, so that the users can open it directly from the database.

Thank you for your help! At least I know I have tried all.

I was working on a new PC in the office, and noticed that a PDF file was inserted as a “package” icon on a report. Turned out that Adobe Reader hadn’t been installed yet on this PC. Once I installed it, PDF files displayed correctly when inserted in a report. Perhaps you need to reinstall Adobe Reader – a new version has just been released anyway, see post 654,093, so this might be a good opportunity.

Thanks, Hans. We will try that and let you know about the results.

We have finally tried this. The new version of Adobe Reader took care of the issue in that we can now see the first page of the report – as you mentioned correctly. Reports are not interactive!!!
              Thanks for your help!
