Can anyone reccommend a PDF viewer for Windows 7 64-bit (preferaby free)? I’ve heard Adobe is not compatible. Thanks in advance.

Try Foxit reader: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/

Works fine for me on 32 bit system. Can’t see why it wouldn’t work on a 64 bit version.

I use Foxit on my system. Im running Win 7 x64 Pro. Works much better than Adobe. Its also alot lighter.

I am Abobe Reader 9.2.0 and have no problems. I have set up 3 new machines and they all can with it already installed.

I Use FOXIT on WIN 7 on both PCs – Desktop and Netbook – I recommend it highly – as does Windows Secrets itself.

David, You should try this yourself. I have had no problems at all installing Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.x om my Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium machine.

Are you sure? I just now visited the Adobe site and they were still offering me Reader version 9.2. Could you please post the link to version 10?

Hey Paul (and other Loungers too!)! Be careful if you try Googling on it. I just did a search for “Adobe Acrobat Reader version 10” and came upon a link or two, NOT ADOBE, that look suspicious. I’m not going to mention any URL because I have no proof but I did use Domain Tools to look up one I saw. There’s a lot of that kinda crap floating around the web trying to “trick” people about major software like Adobe, Office, Open Office and others. Be careful…

Well, I must appologize. It is version 9.2 of Adobe Reader on my Windows 7 64-bit machine. It is version 10.0.42.34 of Adobe Flash Player that I have.

I’d love to get rid of Acrobat Reader in favor of an alternative, but previous versions Windows Desktop Search required Acrobat to be installed so that PDF files could have their contents indexed. Does the search built-in to Win 7 index PDF contents without Acrobat being installed?

Used to like Foxit but have moved to Sumatra. It’s meaner and leaner and runs fine on Win7 (32 & 64 bit).

You heard wrong. You should actually check the manufacturers webisite instead of relying on gossip.

I have an old version of Adobe Acrobat Standard 6.0 ( I said it was old) that I have installed on windows 7. When I was installing it, I got the not compatible message. I told it to install anyway to see how it was incompatible. (I did this,I don’t suggest it to anyone else. It’s your choice.) It worked – and does work fine. I have done this with several programs Windows 7 didn’t like the looks of and they work fine ON MY COMPUTER, meaning this is not a challenge to Microsoft or an endorsement to disregard their suggestions. However, most programs have an uninstall option, so it might be worth it to see what the incompatibility is. All it should cost you is a little time ( I would not think buying a program with this in mind would be a good idea) however, if you already have the program, or it’s free….

I am also running Adobe Acrobat Reader in Windows 7 Ultimate x64. There is a slight hiccup if you use Outlook, since PDF Preview handler doesn’t work, it’s easy enough to fix, and there are many ways to go about it.
