AskWoody PlusJanuary 29, 2024 at 1:00 pm #2632450I have toyed with it. I don’t value the AI craze at all.

..The main product of the Perplexity AI is its search engine, which relies on natural language processing..
Perplexity has raised $73.6 million in a Series B funding round, led by notable investors including Nvidia and Jeff Bezos..

Alex5723, I respect that completely. You clearly have a lot technical skills and savvy. I would like to understand more of why you feel like this. I am very aware AI has some real risks, yet as a bystander I find it fascinating. What am I missing?
Desktop mobo Asus TUF X299 Mark 1, CPU: Intel Core i7-7820X Skylake-X 8-Core 3.6 GHz, RAM: 32GB, GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti 4GB. Display: Four 27" 1080p screens 2 over 2 quad. -

AskWoody_MVPJanuary 30, 2024 at 7:25 am #2632735I have not commented about AI as I have been observing from the sidelines and reading the hype.
Predictions and ideas on how AI will affect us all are opinions until time tells the truth. These are my comments and my opinions (aka: not facts):Why do they call it AI (Artificial Intelligence)? It should be called IF (Informed Fabrication) or COG (Computers Overtly Guessing).
Where will it lead?
When I click to close an app, the box that pops up that used to say Are you sure? now says Your not finished yet, have more to do, and can’t quit now.
Open an email from a friend that is upset about my reply to their email which after re-reading realized my AI word processor rewrote my email to include things I would never say.
Like most new innovations it will have both good and bad. One good thing AI will do and is already doing is finally convincing the vast majority out there that just because it appears on the Internet doesn’t make it real or true.
My biggest fear of AI is people becoming dependent upon it, and losing the ability to logically think thinks out for themselves. I remember when I gave the cashier money, they would calculate my change and count it back to me. Cash registers came out that calculated the change back. Now I run into numerous cashiers that can’t calculate how to make change and are totally dependent upon the cash register to tell them how much to give back. I play games with younger people that have to get out their phone to use the calculator to tally the score after each hand, which I tally before they can get their calculator app to load. I don’t see how losing these basic skills makes “smarter” by using modern technology. Technology should be used and not enslave us.
HTH, Dana:))

Are you in need or missing any of the features of Copilot in Peter Deegan’s post : https://www.askwoody.com/2024/use-copilot-now-and-for-free/ ?
I don’t.I know how to search and get the results I need.
I don’t need an some AI to write, Summarize, search…AI may have some usage in places like photo editing, creating fake videos of dead people (George Carlin) , creating nude photos of celebrities (Taylor Swift)…
The only time I use sort of ‘AI’ Siri is while driving and need to call someone or ask for music tracks.
Apart from those simple tasks I don’t think AI has much to offer and the craze is overblown.
