On a monthly basis I do a Normal backup of a personalized selection of folders to a new file named in accordance with the date (yymm.bkf). On a daily basis I do an incermental backup to the same file.

Is there some way to remove the necessity of reselecting the personalized selection of folders each month, but instead capture the regime from the previous month’s bkf file and/or the scheduled task or ntbackup.exe? Or even duplicating the regime of the Normal backup in the incremental backup?

    Many thanks in advance.

I presume that you are using the NTBackup GUI to perform these backups, and making changes to these requires work with the GUI. The command-line parameters for NTBackup are notoriously opaque. I don’t have a simple answer for you if you want to continue with NTBackup other than by purchasing BackupAssist (which we use on our servers). But it’s really a low-end business backup solution, and you may not like the price.
There are a large number of ‘home’ backup programs, some of which have ‘free’ options, like SyncBack, but your requirements exceed the capability of the free version, I would say.
Out of interest, the backup and restore features in WIndows 7 are an improvement on NTBackup – it is alleged.

Moving the thread to the Backup forum rather than XP.
