I hope this is the correct forum.

I have a client that needs to connect to a medical information provider’s ftp site (which have done successfully) and download a file to a workstation. This file is then imported into an Access database. Now that the testing is completed, the medical information provider requires us to provide a “public key”. My client’s IT guru has no experience with PGP, nor do I. The medical info provider typically deals with insurance companies, who have the necessary expertise to deploy and implement PGP.

Does anyone have any suggestions how best to accomplish this?

I don’t have PGP installed any more. The basic approach is that

• You install PGP
• You use PGP to create a “key pair” consisting of a private key and a public key
• You send the public key to your information provider
• Your information provider uses your public key to encrypt the data
• When you download the data PGP can use your private key to decrypt the data

PGP comes in two different variants, you can find the freeware version here, or a supported paid for version here.
