I like the old Windows Character Map, and I can open it by searching for it. When it’s open I can pin it to the Taskbar, but I can’t figure out how to pin it to the Start Menu. I want it there so I don’t have to search for it every time I need a character with an accent, and I don’t need it taking up space on my Taskbar.

Who can tell me how to pin it to the Start menu?

When Windows Character Map appears in the search box, right click on it and you will get an option to pin to start. It will appear as a tile.

I played a bit and got it pinned to the Start menu. I typed Windows Character Map in the Search box, waited a few seconds and a list came up. I right-click the one marked Desktop and got Pin to Start. After doing than I then got the choice to Unpin from Start.

I should add, those items I pin to Start end up at the bottom of the list of Tiles so I drag them to the very top of the list, just above Life at a glance and makes them immediately visible when clicking Start but could be positioned where best suited.

It worked for me! I suppose I should have thought of this method myself, but I didn’t. Windows Secrets scores again!
