Is there a way to play only a part of an audio file? Let us say that you want to play only the first 25 seconds of an mp3 file; I do not see anything in PowerPoint that allows one to do this whether there is just one slide or several slides. The only solution that I can think of is editing the sound file with another program (Audacity, EZ Media Creator) and then inserting the shortened version into PowerPoint. Am I correct or is there something that I have not thought of?
    Thank you very much.

I’m not a PowerPoint expert, but I fear that you’re correct in that you’ll have to insert an edited version of the MP3 file, I don’t see any options for MP3 files except starting and stopping them.

It is POSSIBLE to stop it after 25 seconds. Add a with previous STOP action in custom animation and delay it 25 secs. I wouldn’t go there though because the cut off will be very abrupt.

Edit in Audacity and fade out

Thank you for responding. I do agree that the best thing to do is to edit the sound file to 25 seconds. I’m afraid I do not understand the steps that you gave me. Did you mean to set the sound file to delay 25 seconds or to introduce another sound and delay that? The first way delays the start of the sound but does not stop after 25 seconds. I tried the second way but the sound does not stop after 25 seconds. Could you give me a step by step? Much appreciated.
        Thank you very much.

Insert to play automatically. In custom animation select the same sound and add a stop animation in object actions. Set this to with previous and a delay of xx seconds. I have uploaded a sample to http://www.pptalchemy.co.uk/soundstop.zip%5B/url%5D

Thank you for responding. I cannot seem to duplicate what you have done even though I did download your sample. How do I select the same sound? How do I add a stop animation? I have tried but I get the same sound playing over each other.

            Thank you.

I just figured it out and was able to duplicate it! Thank you again. I’ve never used these steps before. Thanks again.

One other observation: The way you suggested applies only when there is just one slide. If I advance to the next slide, the sound stops immediately. Again, the best technique is to insert a sound that has already been shortened and faded out.
            Thank you again.
