    Hi

I wanted to use Thunderbird but when I run setup, it automaticlly sets mail with imap configuration and I get a message saying Virginmedia does not support encryption for imap.

I tried to set up for pop but with no success, any ideas please.

    Regards Braddy

Hmmm, I’ve never had TB do that. But, if you go to Tools, Account Settings and Add Account, you should be able to work your way to this screen. Let us hear how you make out. (If this works, I would hope you can them delete the IMAP account.)

Have you worked your way through the Virgin Media help info? Here’s stuff about iMAP

      BATcher

Plethora means a lot to me.

Only two suggestions, since your link says the same thing I did but with more pictures. First, he’ll want to read the POP section, not IMAP. Secondly, the screens in the link must be a much older TB 2 version because they’re slightly different than the current 2.0.0.23 but still useful.

I thought it might say something about encryption…!

Aha, I see. Well, I guess Braddy can read as much of it as he needs to. I took his post (maybe erroneously) to mean that his ISP doesn’t support IMAP and he was wanting to setup POP instead. Well, he’s (hopefully) got the tools to help him. Thanks for clearing that up.

If you want to use POP, my settings for TB3 are:

      Server: pop3.blueyonder.co.uk

Username: is my username (I usually use the one issued by Blueyonder (as VirginMedia were) as opposed to my “friendly” one)

Security settings: connection security=STARTTLS if available

      Use secure authentication is unchecked.

      SMTP server:smtp.blueyonder.co.uk

Username and password is checked and username is in the box.

      connection security=STARTTLS if available

      Hope this helps
