POP3 account Outlook setup problems (2003)

I have the following somewhat complicated problem:
Situation
PC-A is located in a remote office, and uses Remote Desktop to connect to …
PC-B which is located on a local LAN, which has an Exchange Server.

Requirements
PC-A has its own email address on its own domain (say username@domain.co.uk), at which address it wishes to RECEIVE emails.
PC-B will be used to SEND OUT emails using Outlook and the Exchange server, with the return address being username@domain.co.uk.

Consequently I need to set up a POP3 account on Outlook on PC-B which will enable both these operations to take place.

I am looking at the screen shown in the attached graphic, and need to know what gets entered in each field. Will this screen deal with the sending of emails from PC-B, such that their ‘reply address’ is user@domain.co.uk?

Fairly obviously the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) is the name of the Exchange server,
and the E-mail address is user@domain.co.uk
so I am stuck on the Logon Information
and the Incoming mail server (POP3) – because no incoming email is wanted from the Exchange server to PC-B!

I hope my explanation is fit-for-purpose!

I would set up a dummy “Incoming” account, for Outlook to check as it is started. Then the outgoing should work. The incoming account would need to be there as one would keep getting a error each time and then would be seeing the error every time.

I’ll try that – but what Logon Information do I need to put. Is this the Logon to the Exchange server?

It would be the Dummy account name and password as this is the one needed to access the Exchange server.
I guess I should NOT use the term “Dummy” but a account that would NOT be used for any other purpose.

In case anyone should look this up in the future, the critical factor is that an Exchange mailbox has to be set up for each of these POP3 users, even though it isn’t used, as far as I can see.

This was gleaned in passing from Microsoft’s Configuring and Comparing the POP3 Service in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and Microsoft Windows Server 2003.

After having set up the mailbox, the error messages
“0x800CCC92 Logon failure: unknown user name or password”
and
“Outlook could not connect to the incoming POP3 mail server because the server did not accept your user name or password”
stopped being issued for the POP3 account when pressing the Test Message button when playing with the account in Outlook…

(Wish I’d known this a few weeks ago – it would have saved me an inordinate amount of hassle, heartache and horror.)

If you click on the “More Settings” option you can enter a reply address. This should give you what you are looking for
